MAPLE LEAF MARKSMEN CLUB
JULY 7 & 8, 2007
Well, we had another match weekend with excellent weather. That little bit of rain Sunday was actually
a blessing - it wasn’t enough to make scoring the targets difficult, and it kept the temperature down to
comfortable levels. (I had been a little apprehensive about the forecast of +38). Our turnout of shooters wasn’t
great, but it was reasonable - and a little better than last year (52 rather than 46).
I have to give very sincere thanks to the Maple Leaf Marksmen club (Colin Smith in particular) for all
their work getting the range ready - and for all their work during the match. Mark Jugley helped a lot Sunday -
and Jack Clinton has done a lot in past years. It was nice to see Jack out there on Sunday - looking rather better
than he did earlier in the year. Hope you keep on improving, Jack!
I also have to thank Mike Bennett and Robert Wood (our CROs), Colin Smith (again) for his work on
the range and in stats, plus our Stats crew - Lois McNaught (our CSO), Clare Maitland, Wayne and Flo Morris,
Charlie Burbank, Robert Wood (again), Mark Jugley, Bernie Minegarten, and Shari Akow. Without workers
like these the match simply could not operate.
Unfortunately we weren’t able to pass out many medals and plaques at the award presentations on
Sunday. I’ll be mailing out the remaining ones this week.. Legends for the medals and the Provincial Champion
plaques have been prepared and are included with the mailed results (they include the recipient’s name and so
we have no time to get them ready at the match). Please put these labels on the bottom front of the plaques or
the back of the medals we passed out Sunday.

That 1148 Greg Sych fired in ISSF 3-Position is a new match record - beating one that has held up for a
long time (1145 fired by Christina Ashcroft in 1990). Congratulations, Greg! The other scores are all good but
didn’t set any new records.
It’s a long haul here from the Ottawa area - but it looks like it was worth it to Jacques Rossignol; who
won the ISSF Prone Provincial Championship in both Iron and Any Sights.
In the schedule below note the addition of a match at Peterborough run by the Durham Sharpshooters. I
don’t have a match notice yet but it will be very similar to the Polar Bear match Peterborough ran in April.
