A few comments on the 2003 Winter Games results

The matches went very smoothly with no serious glitches. The scoring crew did an excellent job. The top ten sets of targets in the Individual match and the top five teams were rescored by the jury before the results were posted - they changed only a handful of the 4000 targets rescored. During the first three days of competition we had no challenges in the stats office. This is almost unheard of. We did get nine the last day, with the shooters winning two. Not a bad record.

Several records were broken:

Old Record

Ladies Air Pistol Final: Donna Bruce with 459.5

451.1 in 1999 by Tania Grad

Ladies Air Rifle Qualifying Jessica Hornby’s 382

tied 382 in 1999 by Melissa Evans

Ladies Air Pistol Team British Columbia with 713

710 by Alberta (1995) and,
710 by Nova Scotia (1999)

Men’s Air Pistol Team Ontario with 1088

1075 by Saskatchewan (1999)

The Finals produced some very interesting results. In Ladies Air Pistol Erin Sloan moved up from fourth to second. In Men’s Air Rifle the top six shooters were separated by only three points and the standings after the Finals were completely different. Drew Schreuder went moved 3rd to 1st , Graham McCord moved from 5th to 2nd and Roland Rondeau moved from 6th to 3rd.

Interesting team results: In the Men’s Air Pistol Team event Steven Cacka unfortunately injured his back and was unable to complete the course. The way he and Roland Rondeau were shooting this cost Alberta a Gold medal. Too bad. In the Ladies Air Rifle Team event 3rd through 6th place were separated by 2 points - this was largely responsible for the number of challenges the last day.

In the results new record scores are marked with **.
