Getting started

There are 3 ways to participate in ORA activities.

  1. You can simply join the ORA by filling in the membership application form and sending it in with the membership fee. When your membership is approved you are eligible to participate in ORA events and activities.

  2. You can attend an ORA event as a guest, for a small guest fee, and then decide whether you want to join. If you want to attend as a guest it is best to either find an ORA member who will take you along, or to contact the ORA telling us which date you would like to attend. We can then tell you more details about your chosen date and what would be required to make the most of the day

  3. You can attend an ORA Introductory Day.

The ORA Introductory Day

The ORA Introductory Day is designed to give you all the information you might need to decide whether you wish to join the ORA.

The day starts at 9 AM with essential safety training. This is followed by a brief session during which the organization, event schedule and various activities the ORA offers to members are explained. By midmorning we move out onto the range and start shooting. Typically the rest of the day, except for a short lunch break, is spent on the range. The day is finished with a short debriefing at around 5 PM.

The ORA provides rifles, ammunition, supervision and instruction for your time on the range. Participants are welcome to bring their own non-restricted rifles along.

You do not need to possess a firearms license to participate in an ORA Introductory Day. You will be fully supervised when handling firearms on the range. This is to welcome participants who would like to take a look at the shooting sports with a view to getting into target shooting.

You should pre-book your attendance at an Introductory Day using the form provided [here].

If you wish to learn all about the ORA and it’s activities, or want to get started shooting with the ORA but there is not a convenient Introductory Day scheduled, please remember that attendance at an Introductory Day is NOT a compulsory step to membership (but is recommended of course). You can take options #1 or #2 listed above.

We look forward to seeing you at an ORA Introductory Day soon.
