Precision Rifle Clinic

On Saturday June 14 2003, a little bit of history was made. For the first time ever, the ORA hosted a Precision Rifle Clinic for competition shooters. Ed and Lynn Boynton were the driving force behind this event; they initiated it, they marketed it, they managed it and they deserve the thanks of the ORA for their work. They contracted Keith Cunningham and Linda Miller of MilCun Marksmanship Complex to develop the program for the day and run the Clinic. John Brooks provided his usual excellent services as Range Safety Officer.

The Clinic was a big success by all measures. There were 31 participants, all of whom had a great day. The weather was perfect, one of the better days so far this year. We started at the 100-yard mound with zeroing and grouping practice, providing some marksmanship coaching where possible. We then moved back to 300 yards and focused on the skills required to shoot the Agony Snap. We spent the bulk of the day working on drills and practices for the 400-yard moving targets. As one participant said with pride and excitement, "I've never hit a moving target at 400 yards before! In fact, I've never hit anything at 400 yards before!" Finally, we finished the day with a lecture on wind reading.

All agreed that the one day Clinic was great and the next one needs to be two days in order to cover all of the skills required for Precision Rifle. And we are all looking forward to the next one that Ed & Lynn organize!
