Sunday 10th August 2003
Keith Cunningham won the Lt. Governor's Match with what is almost certainly a record score under current conditions. Keith went into the Final without having dropped a point, and then scored a fine 74 in tricky conditions at 1000 yards.
The major aggregates were shared between Keith and Bruce Bullock - the former taking the Long Range, the Canada Dry and the Ottawa, while Bruce came out on top of the Short Range, and the Mercer. Leo D'Amour and Bob Pastor shared the honours in the F Class. Lists of the major matches and aggregates can be found on this site.
The prizes were presented by Major-General Nick Hall, Honorary President of the ORA.
All in all it was a good championship. We were extremely lucky with the weather, since the thundershowers were all around, but never came during shooting hours.
Next week the DCRA Matches start at Connaught. ORA Team Captain, Paul Bawden, has a strong group of shooters, chosen mostly fro this weekend's Ottawa Aggregate.
Saturday 9th August 2003
This was a good day for shooting, warm and with a light wind. Thundershowers had been predicted, and judging form the sky, were all around us. However, we only had a few drops of rain in mid-afternoon. All four matches were completed in good order.
There is a four way tie for the TR class of the Brassey (500 yards) and a three way tie for the F class in the Macdonald Stewart (600 yards). These will be shot off on Sunday. Scoring has been high as can be seen from the lists.
Keith Cunningham lead the 40 qualifiers for the TR Lt. Governor's Final, but there is little spread amongst the top shooters. The 1000 yard Final in both TR and F Class should be an interesting affair.
It is particularly pleasing to see how well the cadets and juniors are doing - no fewer than 18 of them having qualified for the Final.
Friday 8th August 2003
The 122nd Annual ORA Matches got underway today, with an entry of 100 shooters. There are visitors from the USA, Bermuda, Great Britain and Australia, plus nearly all the Provinces and Territories of Canada.
Only one match, the Gibson at 300 yards, was possible before shooting had to be suspended for the day. It is hoped that the normal schedule will be possible for Saturday and Sunday.
There is a tie in the Target Rifle Class between David Crispin, an Englishman currently resident in Pittsford, New York, and Bruce Bullock of Etobicoke, Ontario. Both scored 50.6. This will be resolved in a tie shoot tomorrow. In the F Class, Leo D'Amour from Laval, Quebec, had a perfect score of 60 to win the class.
Four matches are scheduled to be fired on Saturday, constituting the first part of His Excellency The Lieutenant Governor's Match.
