Important Notice, Please Read

Starting Jan 1, 2001 you must have a valid firearms license or acquisition certificate to possess firearms in Canada. This is the law and is not subject to discussion. Do not bring firearms to ORA events without your valid firearms license No license = no shooting with the ORA. Please don’t put yourself in an embarrassing situation by trying to get around the law.

Don’t know the law? Check the Canadian Firearms Center to find out about it.

Additional Information for Non-ORA shooters

All shooters at ORA Matches must have conjoint ORA/DCRA Membership.

Visiting shooters from the USA or elsewhere who have not paid the ORA activity fee will pay $20 per match as a surcharge on their entry fee. If they are going to come three or more times, it's worth paying the lower activity fee. This $20 surcharge also holds for ORA members who have not paid the activity fee and wish to attend matches or practices other than the ORA Annual matches.

The $50 Temporary License is part of the new Canadian firearms regulations and nothing to do with the ORA. However, the ORA (and DCRA) will require that a valid license be shown by each firer before the shoot. Regular visitors from the USA might do well to consider taking the firearms test and applying for the regular Firearms License. These cost (I think) $60 for five years. They might also consider registering all firearms that they might wish to bring to Canada. That will remove the need for at least some of the paperwork and customs checks on each entry. For further details on the legislation, look at the web site of the Canadian Firearms Center (there is a link from the DCRA web site).

All these extra expenses on shooters in Canada are regrettable. However, they are a necessary part of our continued ability to shoot at all.
