This is just what you have been waiting for! The results for the first ORA Precision Rifle match in 2000. We had a good turnout and a nice day for shooting.  It was good to see some of the familiar faces that have been in hibernation all winter.  There was actually a HPS shot in this match.  I have not seen one of them in a while. Well done Peter!

I likely handed out some certificates to the wrong people as it appears I didn't have all the cards at the time and I handed out team awards to pairs.  Just trying to do too many things at the same time I guess.  I'll will endeavour to be at least a little bit more organized next time. If you did not receive a certificate and feel that you must have it then let me know by June 9th and I'll print you one and bring it to the next match.

If you see a glaring error in your scores please let me know. Note that I do not re-add all the score cards unless I suspect an error. I only take the final score as recorded on the card that both the shooter & scorer agreed to and signed.  So, if the score I've recorded was 15 and your score card says 45 I'll change it. However if the score should have been 45V8 and the card only says 45 then I will record 45. Make sure your score is correct before you sign the card.

Unfortunately we were unable to complete the 800 yard part of the competition as the earlier matches dragged on a bit too long. I alone cannot "fix" this problem, I need YOU to not waste time gossiping or fiddling with your gear when you should be going to the butts or moving back.  It should not take more than 4 hours to complete less than two hours of total shooting time as it did for this shoot.  Nor should it take more than 1/2 an hour to register - but it does because people tend to prefer yacking rather than registering. I've been asked by more than one person to cut off registration at 08:30 and to reject anyone that comes after that so that we can get started on time.  Any Thoughts?

 ~ Important Safety Stuff ~

I am concerned about the use of cell-phones on the range.  If you have a cell-phone it will be turned OFF at any point forward of a line 50 ft behind the firing mound. This includes the butts.  I was apprised of one individual at this past match that was talking on the phone whilst trying to mark and thus giving very poor target service obviously unaware of his surroundings - dangerous in that environment. Safety is paramount on the range and in the butts, you must have your mind on the task at hand. Turn the phone OFF.  If you see someone using a phone where they should not please tell them to turn it OFF.

Graphics Wanted

I would like to change the graphics for the Championship T-shirt this year.  If you have any good ideas please let me know.

Getting it on the target

It seems that some people seem to think that they require more sighting shots just to find the target. The Precision Rifle Matches are Competitions, not practice sessions. If you are keen to shoot lots of practice shots then I encourage you to join Mons Club. Mons has already had practice days in which you could already have obtained a zero.

At this past match I had a couple shooting with me that had never shot this type of match before and may not have even shot a fullbore rifle before. They were shooting ball ammunition through my Mom's rifle. Starting with only a rough 300 yard zero and using a generic elevation chart they did very well through the match. In fact Therosa shot a 47.3 at the 600 deliberate -- quite a respectable score I think. If these new people can do it there is no reason why you seasoned veterans need extra sighting shots.  Well done Therosa!

Your Input Welcomed

As always, I welcome your input and thoughts about how to improve the matches.  BUT, I don't what to just hear whining without suggestions about how to resolve the problem. Without input from you I will run the matches solely as I see fit. Thank you for the input that I've already received.
